Pierrefort was one of three major print dealers fin-de-siecle Paris (along with Sagot and Arnould) who also specialized in posters. He commissioned Ibels, Thiriet and Lobel to design advertisements for his business. Although little is known about Lobel, he was clearly held in high esteem by his contemporaries, as in addition to this poster, he was also commissioned to design one for the prestigious Salon des Cent. From the flat colors and the color scheme, to the use of outlining and perspective, this poster bears a startling resemblance to works by Toulouse-Lautrec. This is the version before text. rare Affichomanie 5, Wine Spectator 61 (var).
